Must Intelligent Aliens Think Like Us?

This is an extension of Deallo's R.O.B.O.T. thread. I wasn't able to think of a way to fit it in the context of that thread without hijacking it, though.

So.

Do you believe that we could relate to the mind of an advanced alien species? Is there a universal language -- such as mathematics (or Love or whatever) -- where we would be able to communicate with any intelligent enough species? Would we recognize an alien mind as a mind? Or could the intelligence of an alien race be completely and permanantly unintelligible to our species?
