A charity that works with people who are in debt says that fewer youngsters who own homes are asking for their aid.
Last year 3,008 20-somethings who own property were in this position, whereas back in 2009 this stood at 4,489, says the Consumer Credit Counselling Service.
Again in 2009, 1,344 20-something mortgage holders who worked with the charity were in arrears. Last year this stood at 816 ? a fall of nearly half.
Mortgage payments have fallen in this period, the CCCS says. Its 20-something clients now pay ?471.61 a month on average, whereas this was ?543.92 a couple of years back.
CCCS's Delroy Corinaldi commented that, for youngsters who already own property, things look better than they do for those having a tough time becoming first time buyers.
"Nevertheless, this is not a time for complacency as there are multiple pressures
attacking [young owner's] ability to pay their mortgage," he added.
The charity also recently reported that, among renters, some 10, 246 got in touch with them last year looking for aid because they were in arrears ? up from 2010's figure of 8,074.
A UK first time buyer will need to research all about how to buy a house including mortgages and legal advice.
